In yesterday’s Neighbours we saw David Tanaka return to Erinsborough at the request of Leo to help Krista Sinclair who was struggling with the effects of drug withdrawal.
Using his medical knowledge and bedside manner, he talked Krista through the process, encouraging her to take better care of herself. All of David’s hard work was shattered when Holly talked to Krista about the death of Conrad Sinclair, a fact that had been kept secret from Krista in fear of it slowing her recovery. Finding out this devastating news, Krista disappeared from her room at Lassiters and David feared the worst.
Learning why Krista has bolted, David jumps into action mode and arranges a search party. Eventually he finds her, learning she has scored more drugs, but catches her before she has a chance to use.
At first, David has trouble convincing Krista that this isn’t the right way to go, but eventually manages to turn Krista around by opening up to her about his medical manslaughter experience, and how that changed the direction of his life. he explains that people can’t be judged by past decisions, only each decision as they move along and this is Krista’s chance to change her story.
Krista returns to the hotel with David, where she gets rid of her drugs. Fearful that if left alone she will try and find drugs again, she asks David to stay overnight. David can see how much Krista wants to beat the addiction and suggests a short stay in rehab to help her recover and hiring a “sober companion”, someone to be near her and support her, once she’s discharged.
Originally resistant to the idea of a lengthy stay in rehab, she sees this as a great compromise and asks David if she can employ him to be her companion. Of course, for David, that would mean a return to Erinsborough.
He ponders the idea, realising that the past few hours with Krista ignited a passion he had lost since his career as a doctor ended. He realises this is a great option for him and knowing that Aaron and Nicolette are desperate to return to Erinsborough.
He tells Aaron, Jane and Sam about the offer and breaks the news. They are moving back to Erinsborough!
