Tensions have been mounting over the last few weeks as it was revealed Erinsborough High would have to close, displacing hundreds of students and causing teachers including Jane Harris and Mike Young to lose their jobs. Friendships were stretched to a breaking point when it was revealed that Terese Willis was buying the school site as a location for her retirement experience development.
Today, everything came to a head as students and teachers, past and present, as well as local residents, came out to support the school and try to prevent its closure with former student-turned-radio-host Summer Hoyland broadcasting live from the site.
The protest, planned by Nicolette and Wendy, had been kept a secret from school principal Jane Harris. When she first finds out what is happening, she is angered, but when she hears Summer interviewing former students and staff, she realises how important the school is and that she isn’t ready to give up the fight, being joined by Susan and Melanie for support.
When they arrive at the school they see the crowd getting more and more restless, eventually breaking through a barricade of Police officers and enter the school building, running riot in the hallways.
Terese calls in private security to try and get the protesters out of the building, but not before they cause damage around the hallways. As the security guards clear out a final stairway, they get into a tussle with teacher Marty Muggleton. Without anyone noticing, Melanie Pearson gets caught up in the fight and knocked backwards down a flight of stairs. As the security team secure the building, Melanie is left unconscious at the bottom of a stairwell.
Will anyone find Melanie? Will the protest be successful? New episodes of Neighbours drop Monday-Thursday at 7am on Amazon Freevee and Amazon Prime Video.
