Melanie hasn’t stepped foot on Ramsay Street since she was taken away by Police after admitted to killing Krista Sinclair.
At lot has happened since then, Melanie was charged, sent to prison, Krista was found to actually be alive after all and more recently Melanie found herself in a very difficult situation after being knocked unconscious during the Erinsborough High protests.
With Melanie’s former stepdaughter, Nell, concerned that Melanie won’t have any support once released from hospital and will struggle to care for herself due to her injuries, Terese comes up with a solution. Already feeling guilty over Mel’s predicament, an injury that was caused by one of her security guards and now seeing Nell distressed, we saw her arrange for Melanie to move in with the Kennedys to recuperate, just 3 doors door from her own marital home with Toadie.
Finally released from hospital, Melanie arrives back on Ramsay Street on Thursday. It begins on a positive note as her arrival coincides with Nell’s birthday and she gives her a framed ticket of her favourite wrestling match as a birthday gift. She understands that she can’t be at Nell’s party the next day, not wanting to get in the way of the new family dynamic at the Willis house and has a joyous reunion at No.28 instead.
Despite this, Melanie’s presence resonates with Terese, who feels usurped when the wrestling T-shirt she organized for Nell seems to pale in comparison to Melanie’s gift. Toadie reassures her that Nell will adore the T-shirt, or more so the thought behind it, but he’s privately concerned.
Meanwhile, Melanie realises her move back won’t be easy when she needs a prescription for her pain medication. Remi’s at home and offers to write her one, but when Melanie enters her old home, she’s overcome by panicked emotion. She runs back out onto the street, seeing Toadie in the front yard of the Willis house. Making eye contact, Melanie escapes back to the safety of the Kennedy house, leaving Toadie even more worried.
