Daniel Boys, who sang the Neighbours theme tune from 2013 – 2014 has announced that he will be playing the role of King George in the first UK and Ireland tour of the hit musical Hamilton.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s revolutionary musical phenomenon will be hitting the road in November, debuting at the Manchester Palace Theatre. Dates are confirmed through until October 2025, visiting Edinburgh, Bristol, Birmingham, Dublin, Cardiff, Bradford, Southampton, Liverpool, Sunderland, Plymouth and Norwich.
Taking to social media, Boys wrote:
It feels very surreal writing this and I still can’t quite believe it’s real, but after 3 months of knowing, I’m now allowed to say that I’m going on tour with HAMILTON!
I’ve been such a huge fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda, his writing and in particular Hamilton for many years and I’m just so happy to finally get my hands on that crown and the character of King George.
The acting industry is tough, hard and so incredibly testing both mentally and physically and I have struggled with this, a lot. Getting cast in this show means more than you’ll ever know.
I’m looking forward to touring with this insanely talented cast and I know we’re all so excited to be sharing this incredible show with the UK and Ireland. Hopefully I’ll get to see some of you there too. See you in ‘The Room Where It Happens’.
Boys has been a regular on the UK theatre scene since 2001, appearing in Rent, Sunset Boulevard and Grease, but shot to fame in 2007 after appearing on the TV Reality Series “Any Dream Will Do”, tasked with finding the next actor to play Joseph in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Following his TV appearance, Daniel continued to appear in theatre shows such as Avenue Q and also toured with John Barrowman in his Music, Music, Music show as well as many other cabaret, theatre and television performances.
In 2012 Daniel entered the Neighbours Remixed competition where the winner would sing the new version of the theme tune. Daniel won the competition along with Australian singer Stephanie Angelini and their duet version of the theme aired from April 2013 until the show’s opening titles underwent a major overhaul in January 2015.
