His cause of death is confirmed following untrue rumours
The family of former Neighbours star, Troy Beckwith have thanked fans for their messages since news of his death broke this weekend.
Beckwith, 48, had played troubled teen Michael Martin, son of Philip Martin, from 1992-1994, with various guest appearances up to 1998.
His former co-star, Kym Valentine, who played Libby Kennedy in the show, was the first to confirm the rumours of his passing on Sunday, taking to Facebook with the news.
On Monday, the official Neighbours social media accounts paid tribute to the actor.
“Everyone here at Neighbours was very saddened to hear of the passing of Troy Beckwith. Fans will remember Troy for his memorable role as Michael Martin in the 1990s. We send our love and condolences to loved ones at this very difficult time.”
Neighbours’ Executive Producer, Jason Herbison added: “Everyone at Neighbours remembers Troy as a very talented young actor who bought passion and complexity to the role of Michael. Our thoughts are with his loved ones.”
The show went on to dedicate Tuesday’s airing of the show on Channel 10 and 10 Peach in Michael’s native Australia to the actor, as a sign of respect.
On Monday, Troy’s family shared a message with fans through the Neighbours Instagram account.
“Troy would be so humbled by all the messages of love. The family would like everyone to know that Troy fought a tough battle with cancer, some news sources are suggesting otherwise, which is totally untrue. The family requests privacy at this time.”
One of Troy’s family members, Steve Beckwith, went on to comment on the post: “Troy’s family would like it known that he passed after a long and brave battle with cancer. Some articles make it sound as if he may have taken his own life, possibly due to his age. This is not true. He actually outlived expectations. Thank you all for your respect and lovely comments.”
We send our deepest regards to Troy’s Friends, Family and all who worked with him at Neighbours.
