First meeting on Ramsay Street way back in 1986, it hasn’t been the easiest journey for Jane Harris and Mike Young. Both leaving Erinsborough and marrying other people, destiny (and the cancellation of Neighbours) bought them back together in 2022 where they fell back in love all over again and Mike bought No. 24 Ramsay Street as a new family home for him to live in with his daughter Sam and Jane.
When Neighbours returned in 2023, Mike was in the UK and Jane had to hurriedly return to Australia after hearing that the school was under threat of closure. Now unemployed, Mike took a job working as a motorbike tour guide in Scotland.
Despite regular video calls, Jane has been desperate for her love to return home so that they can plan their long-overdue wedding.
In the most recent call, Mike becomes concerned that Jane has far too much on her plate, with the school redevelopment and the drama surrounding Aaron and Nicolette following David’s death. Characteristically, Jane downplays the situation but tells Mike how excited she is to have him home soon.
However, when Mike reveals that his job has asked him to stay longer and host another tour, Jane puts her own needs aside and assures him that she supports him in doing what he needs to do.
Although Jane pretends that she can handle another three months without him, she is painfully disappointed as she hangs up the call.
Can Jane and Mike’s relationship survive the long distance? Does Jane need to be honest that she needs Mike home?
