When the latest cast photo was released, there were a few additional surprises, including a new doggo joining Ramsay Street.
While the cast families have been split up in the group shot, to keep that air of surprise, it was always felt the dog may be part of Haz’s family group. But nothing was known about the dog…until now.
Neighbours have confirmed that Trevor (let’s pause and love the name) is joining the show when ‘the new chapter’ starts on September 18. Additionally, he will be joining Haz at No.32 Ramsay Street, which was previously occupied by Aaron, David and co.
Trevor is joining an accolade of canine members of Ramsay Street, and if their looks have got anything to go by, I think they will be leaving a huge impression on us for years to come. While there have been many furries that have walked Ramsay Street, some of the most memorable was because their personality just oozed on screen; while some were memorable for other reasons.
So before we get to see Trevor in action, a feel like a walkies down memory lane to some of the pooches of the past.
Basil
We couldn’t create a list without speaking about the first Neighbour’s doggo, could we?
Basil was the first permanent dog on the street. After Lucy Robinson had to give Patch, who she found injured, back to the rightful owner, she was upset when Jim said “NO” to a new family dog!
However, it was not long before he changed his mind, and they were all off to the RSPCA. After the obligatory real-life fact scenes, where they discussed why dogs are abandoned and what happens if no new homes are found, we were introduced to a little puppy called Basil.
Bouncer
If you were ever to mention Neighbours, Bouncer is the dog that everyone remembers. He was part of the show during the hey-days, and that impression has left a mark for decades to come.
Bouncer was introduced to the show in 1987, in the same episode where we just watched Basil drown. I mean cast replacements are quick, but that did have an air of harshness about it!
He’s been involved in many storylines, including being the hero of the day when he saved Madge & Sky from a chip pan fire.
Bouncer had been part of the Robinsons and Mangel’s family group while on Ramsay Street, and left with Toby Mangel to go live in the country. However, he wasn’t long gone. He ran away from the farm only a few days later. To be found that he had fathered a new litter of puppies. That was quick!.
Off they all went, to the country for the Bouncer story to come to an end…or so you think!
Rosie
Even though Rosie was just a guest dog on the show, she left her mark purely because of her relationship with Bouncer. Rosie & Bouncer created one of the most bizarre, stupid but iconic scenes where they got married in Bouncer’s dream.
Audrey
Audrey has the decoration of being the longest serving dog on the show. Having arrived in 2001 after Drew Kirk found her in a box in the garage.
Libby Kirk (pka Kennedy) & Drew couldn’t have pets in the flat, so took her to the pound. They soon learnt that Audrey had a heart condition, so would be put down. So, Libby convinced Drew to adopt Audrey.
This is a good thing, because even with her heart condition, Audrey was on our screens for 11 years, where we watch Susan & Karl unite (after breaking up for the umpteeth time) to say their goodbyes to their beloved companion.
Also if you thought Bouncer’s return to Ramsay Street from the farm was a trek. Audrey is the marathon dog in comparison, as she did over 400 miles of walking to return from Adelaide to Ramsay Street!
Bossy
When Bossy hit our screens in 2001, this Australian Kelpie puppy not only stole the hearts of the Rebecchis and Kyle but of the viewers too! However, it was Kyle Canning who brought Bossy to the street, and whom she stayed with during her whole time on Neighbours.
Bossy was a character and a scene stealer, and had the ability to act, just not on queue according to Chris Milligan.
This may explain why Bossy was given a lot of her own storylines. Including where she was bitten by a dog, and then a few months later a snake! Just as she was recovering from that, was attacked by Napoleon, the dog belonging to Will who Chris Pappas was dating. Talk about unlucky, eh?
Bossy did get involved in some comedy scenes as well, as she played an intergral part to the underwear thief storyline! However, it was the drama, she excelled at. Because of a brain tumour, Bossy was attacking people and was sent to prison, okay impounded. When released they found out that she was actually ill, the vet bill was too high so she was going to have to be put down.
Amy Williams came to the rescue and traded her services for the operation to be done for free. And Bossy lived for another day!
Bouncer 2 (aka B2)
2015 saw Neighbours celebrate 30 years on television, which brought us the festival dramas…and Bouncer 2.
When a labrador started appearing around Lassiter’s, like one of Paul Robinson’s long lost children, it wasn’t long before Lucy Robinson fell in love with the stray and was determined to find her home.
After learning that the original owner had died, and the dog was a direct descendent of Bouncer, Paul begrungingly let Bouncer 2 join him in the penthouse.
Although B2 got to see the softer side of Paul, their friendship was shortlived, due to terms of the penthouse, Paul couldn’t keep B2. But she was kept in the Robinson’s family group, as Bouncer went to live with Hilary Robinson in the retirement village.
Clancy
Clancy came to Ramsay Street with Shane & Dipi Rebecchi’s family group. Well actually, Clancy was left in New South Wales, and only joined later to appease an upset Kirsha.
As the Rebecchi household went all Tardis mode, housing nearly 10 people, it was clear that there was no place for Clancy at No.30, so in the back garden Clancy stayed. For the majority of his time on the street.
To be fair, there isn’t much stroylines about Clancy that I can remember, but he deserves a mention on this list. While his presence was limited on screen, he always made himself known. Around this time of the show, there were two SFXs that people noticed during scenes. A lawnmower, and Clancy barking in the garden!
Regina Grundy
For the 8000th celebratory episode, and a nod to Neighbours creator Reg Grundy, we were introduced to Valerie Grundy who has lived at No.34 Ramsay Street since 1984! Who knew?
Well, it seems everyone on the street knew Val. She just wasn’t worthy of inviting to any of the street parties throughout the years. Rude!
It was Val’s dog, Regina (you see what they did there?), who alerted the Neighbours that something was wrong, and that Val had sadly passed away in her living room. Believing that Val had no family, Aaron Brennan and David Tanaka adopted Reggie. Fun fact, Regina was played by Timba, who was Matt Wilson’s dog. It appears that nepotism even happens with pets.
It transpires that Val did in fact have a sister, who arrived on the street not so longer after her death. Vera Punt, demanded Regina be handed back, which David and Aaron reluctantly did. Regina Grundy is now living back in No.34 Ramsay Street, and like Val is no longer seen.
