Last week we saw the Linwell Brothers take it to a whole new level in their threats towards the Varga-Murphy family. Remi excitedly opened the first bit of mail they had received at their new address to find a blank piece of paper and white powder. fearing the worst, she immediately ordered Cara and the kids out of the house, asking Cara to call the emergency services because of a suspected anthrax threat.
JJ runs to alert Andrew Rodwell and he goes to speak to Remi through the door of No.30. She sits there alone, fearful for what may happen. As a doctor, she knows that if this is a biological attack, things do not look good for her. She explains to Andrew that the envelope gave her a paper cut and the powder got into the cut.
As Andrew and the family gather in Ramsay Street waiting for the Hazardous Materials team to arrive, Wendy comes outside to see what is going on. Andrew at first tries to send her away but Cara agrees to let her know what is going on. As Andrew explains, Wendy realises her involvement in the situation.
“This is all my fault, I rang those people, the ones that have done this.”
She explains to Cara that she contacted the Linwell Brothers when she was curious about Cara’s past, revealing that she had seen a copy of Cara’s CV and wondered why the Stadium job wasn’t listed”
“They’re not on my CV because they are bad people.”
Wendy tries to apologies but Cara realises that this is the reason why she and her family have been put at risk.
“You led them to me, you’ve done this to my family.”
Wendy breaks down realising the enormity of what this could mean. her guilt causes her to run past the police barrier into the Varga-Murphy house, where she sees a frightened Remi sitting and the white powder spread over the dining table. Wendy goes to to admit to her involvement with the Linwell Brothers, Remi tries to get Wendy to leave but she won’t let Remi go through this alone.
Wendy asks “If this is anthrax, what does it do?”
“It’s a bacterial infection that produces two toxins. Both lead to organ failure if left untreated.” Remi struggles to understand why Wendy didn’t leave when she had the chance. With guilt washing across her face, Wendy assures Remi that she is going nowhere. “My place is here. Ia m the one who caused this. This is what I do, I mess everything up.”
In this unusual situation, the two bond over their individual insecurities and anxieties, Remi revealing that the confidence she has at work as a doctor, disappears when she comes home. Wendy tries to reassure Remi as she begins to break down, just as the HazMat team appear, bringing relief to both women.
It is quickly established that the substance is just baking soda and the Varga-Murphy family rush back into the house with Andrew Rodwell to tell Remi and Wendy who are understandably relieved. Cara gets angry over Wendy’s involvement and how she dug into Cara’s past. Andrew and Remi try to diffuse the situation, but Cara just begins shouting at Andrew about the problem his wife has caused.
JJ jumps to Andrew’s defense, telling Cara that Andrew is a good guy.
“I’ve had about as much as I can take,” screams Cara. “I don’t need either of you in my life.”
“Maybe I do!” shouts JJ. stopping Cara in her tracks. Dex’s reaction makes it clear that there is another secret in this situation and JJ reluctantly reveals the truth.
“I think you might be my dad.”
Remi, Cara, Andrew and Wendy all try to make sense of this bombshell, how on earth could Andrew be JJ’s father?
In the coming up section of the episode, we see that there is strain with both married couples with Andrew questioning what this means for them, as they take a DNA test.
