Neighbours has announced that Matty Wilson and Takaya Honda will return to the show next week to reprise their roles of Aaron Brennan and his husband David Tanaka. In addition, the character of Nicolette Stone, daughter of Jane Harris and mother to Aaron and David’s child, Isla, will be returning, however, she will now be played by Hannah Monson.
Charlotte Chimes who originally played Nicolette from 2020-2022 revealed in April that she would not be returning to the show and that Nicolette would be recast. Hannah Monson has been connected to the show since production began in April after being seen on set and many fans predicted that she would be playing the new Nicolette. Eagle-eyed fans spotted a first look at Hannah in Thursday’s (November 2nd) episode, when Reece was looking at Jane’s family pictures, a framed picture of Hannah looking very Nicolette-esque was on the dresser.
Hannah has previously appeared in a number of shows but is best known for her playing Kirstie Darrow in all 18 episodes of the hit series Glitch, currently available to watch on Netflix in the UK.
Fans were curious where the rainbow family had gone when new episodes commenced in September. In the second new episode Paul revealed that he had a massive falling out with David over Paul jilting Terese at the altar, but little has been said about the family since.
The return of David and Aaron has been a poorly kept secret, with Matty Wilson’s wife telling fans on Instagram that she and her husband were moving back to Melbourne so that he could resume work on Neighbours. A fan also spotted The Drinks Diva van driving down a Melbourne Street, with Amy Greenwood’s picture on side replaced with David’s. In a recent interview Stefan Dennis, who plays Paul Robinson, also let slip that David, Aaron and Nicolette’s daughter, Isla, was retuning to the show, stating that the new actor playing the role was a real chatterbox on set. In an episode synopsis for the week after Flashback week, David’s character was mentioned. So, fans should not be shocked that the Brenaka boys are on their way back to Erinsborough.
Matty Wilson joined Neighbours in 2015 as a member of the ever-growing Brennan family, meeting future husband David Tanaka the following year. The couple went through various highs and lows, with David struggling to come to terms with his sexuality initially and various other love interests came along to try to steer them off-course, but the couple eventually married in 2018, shortly after Australia legalised same-sex marriages. The ceremony was the very first same-sex wedding on Australian television.
Nicolette had previously been involved in a very tumultuous relationship with Aaron’s sister, Chloe (April Rose Pengilly), who is also due to return to the show soon along with her new partner Elly Conway (Jodi Gordon). Will old sparks light a new flame when the long-lost lovers are reunited?
With David, Aaron and Nicolette returning for the much-anticipated Flashback week, hopefully we will find out exactly what happened to force them to move away from Erinsborough and why David is no longer speaking to his father.
New episodes of Neighbours are available from 7am Monday-Thursday on Amazon Freevee and Amazon Prime Video. The Tell-All Flashback Week begins next Monday, November 13th with all 4 episodes dedicated to unravelling the events that we didn’t get to see resulting in the breakdown of Toadie’s marriage to Melanie and Paul jilting Terese.
