Since Melanie returned to Erinsborough last year, there has been tension between her and her former husband Toadie. He is now married to Terese but has been dealing with confusing feelings since the truth behind why Mel walked out on him and the kids was revealed.
Toadie has been struggling with how he feels about Mel and she clearly still is into him, admitting just last month that she was still in love with him and wanted him back. They managed to keep their feelings in check, but following David’s death, Terese rushed to support her ex-husband Paul, leaving Toadie feeling on the outside.
Between his confusing feelings for Melanie and seeing that Terese was prioritising Paul over him, Toadie struggled more and more, coming close to crossing the line with Mel early last week.
In Thursday’s episode we saw Terese cancel a date night with Toadie to go off with Paul to look for her son Josh’s tribute plaque that had been discarded by Chelsea. Feeling angry and heartbroken, Toadie rushed to Melanie to get his feelings off of his chest, but instead, ended up passionately kissing her and starting to undress.
In Monday’s episode it was revealed that the couple didn’t just kiss, they truly took things to the next level with a little bit of afternoon delight. Mel and Toadie ended up having sex, which Toadie seemed to instantly regret.
Faced with the reality of what he had done, Toadie stormed out of Number 28, leaving Mel stunned and confused. He continues to avoid talking to Melanie about what happened, so she decided the only way to make sure she is near Toadie was to sign up for the Lassiters Longest Lie-In contest, where he can’t avoid being in the same space as her.
Mel’s bed ends up being next to Terese and Toadie and she struggles to deal with watching the couple being all loved-up together. When Toadie refuses to engage in conversation with Mel, she breaks and storms off, unable to keep what is happening to herself. She confides in Holly that she slept with Toadie.
Unfortunately, Holly’s walkie-talkie was switched on and the conversation was broadcast across Lassiters, including to Byron’s radio, as he was stood next to Terese and Toadie.
Terese heard every word and every detail of the conversation, as Melanie described their love-making session and how special it was.
Is this the end of the Toad-rage marriage?
In the preview for tomorrow’s episode we see a heartbroken Toadie confiding in Mackenzie, Melanie discussing with Holly that this may be the best thing to have everything in the open and finally we see Paul run to the side of a devastated Terese.
