SPOILERS: THIS ARTICLE REFERENCES THE UNMISSABLE DRAMA IN THE EPISODE OF NEIGHBOURS SET TO AIR ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 16TH
Few couples in Soap-Land have been on and off as much as Paul Robinson and Terese Willis. From her arrival back in 2014, there was a spark between the two, even though she was married to Brad Willis at the time.
Over the intervening years, Paul and Terese have gotten together, broken up, argued, got married, separated and in the show’s 2022 finale, we saw the couple reunite for their supposed “Happily Ever After”.
When we returned to Erinsborough in 2023 however, it was revealed that Paul had jilted Terese at the altar for their vow renewal ceremony after being struck down by guilt after covering up the supposed murder of Krista Sinclair. (Are you still with us?) and Terese had moved on to marry her Neighbours Toadie Rebecchi.
Now, with that marriage over and Toadie out of Erinsborough, fans have seen Paul and Terese slowly drift closer together again. Are we set for a ‘Praise’ reunion?
Monday’s episode is dedicated to the couple in a rare ‘Two Hander’, with Stefan Dennis and Rebekah Elmaloglou, as Paul and Terese, being the only two characters to appear. These special episodes are not seen often on Neighbours, the most memorable examples being with Susan and Finn in the aftermath of the ‘End Game’ island tragedy and, of course, Sonya Rebecchi’s death episode.
Monday’s episode sees the pair thrust together as they go in search of Paul’s son (and Terese’s former lover) Leo, who is feared to be in danger after heading into the bush to try and find Krista’s friend Sebastian.
On their lengthy drive, the pair have a chance to talk and reminisce of their time together, which helps distract Paul at least for a while. When they arrive at the address though, Leo is not to be found, but Terese finds a piece of Leo’s jacket torn on a fence. Noting the location is close to a cliff, Paul is reminded of David’s death and fears he is about to lose another of his children.
After failing to find Leo, they return to their car where they are back in mobile phone range and receive a voicemail from Leo. Unaware of Paul’s worries, he is safe and well and has headed home to Erinsborough after failing to find Sebastian.
When Paul and Terese try to head home, they discover there has been a landslide and the road home is blocked. Terese goes online and books a holiday cottage for the night, but when they arrive they discover that the cottage is all set up for a romantic break away.
The pair turn the awkwardness into an ice-breaker and the stress of the day is lifted as they joke about the situation. They can’t help but be reminded of their lost love together. They acknowledge the chemistry between them but agree they can’t go back.
The next morning Paul wakes to find that Terese has gone. He searches for her and discovers her by a gorgeous lake. Feeling energised in the morning light, Paul can’t contain himself.
He admits to Terese that he wants her back.
Terese is flustered and just walks away…
Has Paul gone too far? Is Terese certain in shutting her ex-husband down?
